The Samelin 516 High Aviator Boots are the taller version of the Samelin 517 Aviator — the same water-repellent leather construction, the same NATO AQAP 2110 and ISO 9001 certification from the same Estonian factory, in a shaft that rises to [add shaft height in cm from Samelin] above the ankle. Unisex EU 35–48. 1.4 kg per pair.

If you already know the 517 Aviator, you know this boot — at a different height. If you're choosing between them, the decision is simple: the 516 is for buyers who want the structure and presence of a taller boot. The 517 is for buyers who want the same quality at ankle height.

What "High" Means for This Boot

The 516's shaft height is the defining choice against the 517. [Add shaft height in cm.]

A higher shaft means:

More ankle and lower-leg coverage. Better weather protection in rain, mud, and snow. More warmth when wearing with thicker socks in cold conditions.

More visual presence. The 516 reads as a boot. It has the silhouette of classic military and equestrian high footwear — not the lower profile of an ankle boot. It works with tucked-in trousers, dresses, and clothing where the boot shaft is intended to be seen.

Slightly more weight. At 1.4 kg per pair (size 41), the 516 is 200g heavier than the 517's 1.2 kg — the difference of the additional leather in the upper shaft. Still light for a boot of this construction.

Construction & Materials

Upper: Water-repellent genuine leather — treated to resist moisture, breathable, and designed to mould to the foot over time. The leather develops a patina with wear rather than degrading.

Lining: [To be confirmed with Samelin — see note above. Either: "The 516 is unlined — the leather upper is the only layer against the foot, allowing the boot to mould to your foot faster than a lined alternative. Breathable and naturally temperature-regulating." OR: "Full leather lining — no synthetic materials. Breathable in warm weather, insulating in cold, shaping gradually to the foot over the first months of wear."]

Insole: Anatomical, antibacterial, and machine-washable. Removable for drying or replacement. Provides arch support and shock absorption for all-day wear.

Outsole: Direct-injected PU — bonded under pressure to the upper, not glued. Flexible, shock-absorbing, and provides grip on wet and dry surfaces.

Weight: 1.4 kg per pair (size 41).

NATO AQAP 2110 & ISO 9001 Certified

The 516 High Aviator is manufactured at Samelin's Estonian factory to NATO AQAP 2110 and ISO 9001 quality standards — the same certifications applied to Samelin's military-contract footwear. The factory has been producing boots since 1921, and the 516's construction is subject to the same audited quality management process as every boot that leaves the facility.

516 or 517 — Which Samelin Aviator?

The 516 and 517 are the same Samelin Aviator boot at two shaft heights. Everything else — leather, construction, certification, factory, insole — is identical.

Also available: the 517 White Aviator Boots — the 517 ankle boot in white, EU 36–46.

Choose the 516 if you want a boot that reads as a boot. Choose the 517 if you want the same quality with the freedom of an ankle boot.

Who the 516 Is For

Cold and wet weather users: The taller shaft provides significantly more weather protection than an ankle boot in rain, mud, snow, and cold. For buyers in Northern European climates who wear boots for actual weather rather than aesthetics, the 516's shaft is a practical advantage.

Riders and equestrian enthusiasts: The clean, tall leather boot silhouette is a natural fit for riding contexts — not a dedicated riding boot, but appropriate for yard and field use.

Fashion and styling buyers: Tall leather boots with a clean, minimal silhouette work with a wider range of clothing than ankle boots — tucked-in trousers, skirts and dresses, wide-leg jeans worn over the shaft. The 516's lack of external hardware keeps it versatile.

Buyers who want the Samelin standard at a taller height: If you've already worn the 517 or M77 and want more boot, the 516 is the direct answer.

Sizing

Available in EU sizes 35–48 for both men and women. These boots run true to size. For cold-weather wear with thick socks, sizing up half a size is common — this is easier to accommodate in a high boot, where extra sock thickness affects fit along the shaft as well as the toe box.
