Size, Form and Function

The Nothing To Declare is the largest structured bag Stella Soomlais makes. At 27 × 41 × 14 cm it is wider than it is tall — a landscape silhouette that sits differently on the shoulder than a conventional vertical handbag. The width accommodates a 13" laptop lying flat in the main compartment, and the 14 cm depth makes it genuinely spacious: clothes for an overnight trip, a laptop, files and documents, everything you'd otherwise need a separate bag for. An internal pocket keeps smaller essentials — phone, charger, cards — separated and accessible.

Two carry modes: an adjustable shoulder strap worn over one shoulder or across the body for hands-free travel and commuting, and a top handle for stations, hotel lobbies and short transfers.

Why "Nothing To Declare"

The name is intentional. This bag was designed for the traveller who wants to move through the world with one bag that doesn't announce itself as luggage, doesn't read as a work bag, and doesn't need a separate carry-on. It's the bag you take through customs, to a meeting, and to dinner on the same day — large enough to contain a trip and refined enough to belong anywhere you arrive.

Vegetable-Tanned Leather

Vegetable-tanned leather improves with age in a way chrome-tanned leather cannot: the surface develops a patina — a deepening of colour and texture — that makes the bag look better at year five than on day one. Marks of regular use absorb into the material and become part of its character. Stella Soomlais sources leather responsibly, with traced supply chains and environmental tanning standards, and production waste is minimised under the Round 2 circular design system — offcuts become smaller accessories, nothing is wasted.

Made to Order

Each bag is made after your order is placed, with production taking up to two weeks before shipping — a reflection of the complexity of the work at this scale. Inside each bag, the craftsperson who made it marks their name: the signature of the person accountable for everything you're holding.

Please measure your laptop before ordering — a 14" or larger laptop will not fit, and a made-to-order bag cannot be returned for a size mismatch.

Caring for Vegetable-Tanned Leather

If the bag gets wet, dry it at room temperature away from direct heat, stuffing it loosely with paper to hold its shape. Apply a quality wax-based leather conditioner two or three times a year to maintain suppleness and deepen the patina. Store in a dust bag away from direct sunlight, lightly stuffed to keep its shape. The darkening at handles and corners is the bag's history — let it develop.
