The Firtree Colourway — Distinctive Without Being Loud

"Firtree" is a deep, muted green — the colour of conifer forests, not a neon hiking aesthetic. On the trail it reads as natural and purposeful; off the trail it works with earth tones, olive, brown, and khaki without requiring outfit adjustment.

Green nubuck leather also develops a particular patina with wear — the surface deepens and develops variation in tone at flex points and high-contact areas in a way that suits the colour more visibly than black. A pair of Firtree boots worn for a full season looks better than a new pair.

Dual-Layer Vibram® Outsole

The 553P Firtree uses the same dual-layer Vibram® construction as the 553P Black:

Outer lug layer: Hard-compound rubber for traction durability on rock, scree, and compressed earth. The outer compound resists abrasion over extended use.

Inner cushioning layer: Softer compound between the outer lug and the boot upper, absorbing impact energy before it reaches the foot. Separate durability and cushioning functions in one sole.

The dual-layer architecture is a meaningful upgrade over a standard single-compound Vibram® sole — the construction type found on most hiking boots including the Samelin 5531 at the same base price point.

4-Layer Topaz Waterproof Membrane

The named Topaz membrane provides a specified, verifiable waterproofing system across four functional layers: outer protection, waterproof and windproof barrier, moisture-wicking layer, and inner comfort lining. Water from outside cannot penetrate inward; perspiration from the foot is wicked outward. In sustained rain, stream crossings, and wet snow, the 553P Firtree keeps feet dry while remaining breathable during ascents.

Waterproof Nubuck Leather Upper

Nubuck is full-grain leather buffed to a suede-like surface — denser and more naturally water-resistant than split-grain or corrected leather alternatives. The Firtree's nubuck upper is water-repellent treated as a primary defence layer, with the Topaz membrane as secondary protection when surface treatment alone is insufficient.

In the Firtree colourway, the nubuck texture is particularly visible — the surface has a depth and grain character that becomes more pronounced as the leather conditions over time.
